Rocking with Pete the Cat

Once again, Pete the Cat was a big hit with my students. This week I read Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin and James Dean.  I had ordered several Pete the Cat books and was anxious to share them with our students.

Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes: Back to School Idea

While reading the book I realized this would make a great “Back to school” read as Pete goes all around the school – the library, the lunchroom, the playground, etc.  This book would be a fun way to introduce the idea of school routines to kindergarten students.  After all, as the book tells us, “Does Pete worry?  Goodness, no.”

Rocking with the Video

After reading the book, we watched a video I found on YouTube of Eric Litwin, the author reading the book aloud along with James Dean, the illustrator.  They were performing at the Decatur Public Library.

My kindergarten classes (and teachers and paras) all loved the video and sang enthusiastically.  This is a good way to appeal to those students who are strong in the musical learning style.
